Julian Cheong has amassed quite a following on Instagram, dabbling in a variety of genres in photography. Landscape, city skylines and street portraits… you name it, he’s got it covered; usually in dreamy shades of teal, pink and gold. He has been faithfully using the Canon EOS 5D Mark III since venturing into photography seven years ago. As a frequent traveller, a DSLR may be sometimes cumbersome to carry around – which is why he decided to try the Canon EOS M6. The tiny camera shouldn’t be underestimated by its small size of 390g; the mirrorless camera produces DSLR-like quality, making it perfect for bringing it on the road. Read on to find out Julian’s personal encounter with the Canon EOS M6, and take a peek at some of his snapshots.   Canon EOS M6 | F11 | 15s | ISO 100

First impressions

I was surprised by how small and light the Canon EOS M6 was, but this doesn’t mean that it skimps on the controls. Also, the front grip of the camera isn’t too big as well so it sits nicely in my hands. Canon EOS M6 | F5.6 | 1/50s | ISO 4000

On his findings

The Canon EOS M6 works pretty well even in low light conditions. At slow shutter speeds, the images were sharp and detailed – similar to shooting with a DSLR. Noise was not a big issue as I was able to push the ISO up to 4000 and still get quite sharp photos. Canon EOS M6 | F6.3 | 1/60s | ISO 3200 With low noise and pleasing colours, the images were sharp and detailed for its sensor size and megapixel count. Canon EOS M6 | F22 | 30s | ISO 100

On one of his favourite features

My favourite feature of the camera would have to be the flip screen. It was really helpful with the low-angle shots and when I had to shoot discretely from the waist. Its weight also makes it ideal for my shots when I travel. Canon EOS M6 | F11 | 1/160s | ISO 100

On whom he thinks it’s perfect for

It’s a very versatile camera so I would not be doing it justice by limiting it to one genre. Being able to shoot up to 9 frames per second, it makes for good action shots, but at the same time, its compact size makes it inconspicuous for street photography. Canon EOS M6 | F22 | 30s | ISO 100 I typically favour shooting landscapes but I did also snap a couple of street shots with the Canon EOS M6. Canon EOS M6 | F11 | 1/250s | ISO 100 If you’re looking for a camera that is perfect for everyday use, the Canon EOS M6 it is a fantastic choice. With great overall performance and image quality, it is an excellent alternative to DSLRs. Canon EOS M6 | F29 | 8s | ISO 100 Canon EOS M6 | F6.3 | 1/50s | ISO 3200 On why it’s the perfect travel companion The Canon EOS M6 is definitely a great travel camera option. It takes up little space while saving baggage weight, but yet at the same time, the quality of images produced remains excellent! Canon EOS M6 | F5.6 | 1/8s | ISO 4000 Canon EOS M6 | F6.3 | 1/200s | ISO 100 One tip I’ll suggest when using it for travel photography: Turn on the grid when shooting to help with composing your shots better. It saves a lot of time when editing the photos later! Canon EOS M6 | F5.6 | 1/200s | ISO 100
